Omen 870-224
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Can the Odense-K from the Omen 870-224 support a NVidia RTX 2060 Super?

I have upgraded the PSU to be a 1000W, and when I plugged in the RTX 2060 Super an error message saying that I need to plug in the pcie power cables to the card, I plugged in the 6+2 pins that can with my psu and am reaching out to NVIDIA support. But they want me to confirm that the motherboard can handle this graphics card before an further troubleshooting on their part.

The old psu broke when i tried plugging in the RTX 2060 Super into it.

what do you mean ?
You can say more about the message, when is it given in what forms?
Do you only have two additional sockets on this power supply?
The card model requires this 1 x 8-pin PCI-E
at least 550 w power supply?

The original psu was only a 500 watt psu, the new one is an EVGA 1000pq platinum grade psu, it has multiple VGA 8 pin connectors that I can plug into it. The provided cables are 8pin to 6+2pin cables, I plug the 8pin directly into the psu and the 6+2pin into the gpu.

I have multiple additional power sockets on the psu.

The error message occurs when the RTX 2060 Super is plugged into the motherboard and psu

@Devin1250,

Who told you that a 1000W PSU was needed?  More than needed.

The original GTX 1060 is a 120W card, you adding a RTX 2060 Super, a 175W card. All you really needed was a 600-650W PSU. Original PSU 500W, add 50W, add minimal overhead, equal 600W. But I like the 650's.

List the steps you undertook to swap out the GTX1060 card ONLY. Do not skip out any part of your steps !

I chose the 1000 watt psu, so that in the future I would not need to upgrade my psu. (Sooner or later i will be upgrading to a new motherboard, cpu, cooling, etc)

First i unplug the hdmi cable and the 6pin plug from my GTX 1060, and then I release the clip that is holding the gpu to the pcie 16 slot on the motherboard. Next I slowly pull the card straight out of the slot. Now i take the same cable that I used for the GTX 1060 and plug both the 6 pin and the 2 pin into the RTX 2060S at the same time. (Note for the 1060 the 2 pin connet was just dangling next to the card.) Next I insert the RTX 2060S into the pcie 16 slot on the motherboard, i push in until I hear a click from the clip. I plug in the hdmi cable into the gpu, i plug the power cable into the psu and turn on the computer. The computer boots to a black screen saying please turn off the computer and plug in the pcie power cables.

Am i missing something?

@Devin1250

1) Put back the GTX 1060 and make sure it boots with the 1000W PSU.

If it does not work, you have a serious problem.

2) You forgot to uninstall all the GTX 1060 software.  So your computer is trying to load the GTX 1060 driver.

3) After step 2,  remove the power cord from the computer and then remove the GTX 1060.

The PC boots normally with the GTX 1060 in it, when i uninstall the drivers for the GTX 1060, will it auto install the drivers for the new card?

HP Recommended

I uninstalled all the GTX 1060 drivers and then tried plugging in the RTX and the same error message appears "Please Power Down and connect the PCIe Power Cable(s) for this graphics card"
