I want to upgrade the RAM in my Elitedesk 800 G1 can i put an 8GB simm and a 4GB in channelA and two 4GB simms in channel B or will this slow down the computer

Hi:

 

It should work, and you would have 20 GB of memory but it will run in 'Flex mode,' which is another term for single channel.

 

On the older HP business desktops such as the dc7800 for example, a mismatched configuration would not work.

 

The PC would not boot up unless you had the same amount of memory in channel A and channel B.

 

You could just have the 8 GB chip in channel A, and have 16 GB running dual channel mode, with the 2 x 4 GB in channel B.

that's what i thought I'm belter to run it @ the 16 gb on duel channel right?

The jury is out on that one.

 

Which is better?  More memory running in single channel mode, or less memory running in dual channel mode?

 

I think you would have to try it both ways and subjectively see which configuration works better.

 

IMHO, since 16 GB is already a decent amount of memory, another 4 GB would not make a whole lot of difference.

 

So, try the 8+0+4+4 config first and if you are happy with it, leave it be.

I raided another computer and added 8GB so now I have 8+4GB and 8+4GB for 24Gb Total seems to works well Tks
