Compaq CQ5210F processor upgrade success

I just installed a AMD Phenon II X4 925 2.8ghz cpu. It is the 95w version and the revision is C3. Thought I would pass this along to others if you are looking to upgrade.

Re: Compaq CQ5210F processor upgrade success

[ Edited ]

I was wondering if AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Deneb 3.0GHz would work for this mobo. It is almost the same as a Phenom x4 9850 Black Edition 2.5GHz, It has the same watts, socket, etc.. Even compared to your processor you have installed is alike, except the watts. On the processor upgrade it says that phenom x4 9850 would work on the mobo. idk if that information its out of date, or by phenom it means phenom and phenom II. I've been looking for this answer for a while. And many said it should work with a BIOS update (I have v5.22). Hoping my question will be answered here, thanks for your time.

Will not work. The board does not support 125w cpu's. Only up to 95w. And if you are using the stock psu. It will need to be upgraded as well.

Re: Compaq CQ5210F processor upgrade success

That's what I thought, But

Processor
Figure 2: AMD Athlon II logo
  • Operating speed: Up to 2.7 GHz
  • Number of cores: 2
  • Socket: AM3
  • Socket type: AM3
    TDP:
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
  • AMD Athlon X2 (Bt)
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 up to 6000+ (W)
  • AMD Phenom Triple-Core up to 8xxx (AM2+) (Toliman)
  • AMD Phenom Quad-Core 9xxx series (AM2+) up to 9850 (Agena)
  • The Quad-Core 9850 (the one it can support) is 125W... same as Phenom II x4 940.. So I dont think its the watts..

Plus I got 750W Power Supply since the one it came with it was only 250W...

    SerGeeOh,

The bios support is the key for processor support.  Stay within the motherboard processor upgrade specifications.  Even then that is not a guarantee.

Re: Compaq CQ5210F processor upgrade success

What about the Phenom II X4 965 processor, 3.2 GHz, 95 Watts?
Is known the 945 and 955 model works fine, but that models are not recognized by the BIOS.

    Excuse my english.
