I am having some confusion in connecting cables inside pavilion p6 series cpu. There is a p3  wire which comes from power supply and one part is connected to hard disc as p4. Also there is p5 and p6 connected  in one wire and a SATA cable left which one part is connected to motherboard.I am  trying to replace dvd recorder. Now getting confused in connection of cables. Help me....

Hi

The power supply is likely to have more connectors than there are actual devices, as they are spare in case of adding another Hard Disk etc.

It should not be possible to plug in the wrong cable.

A DVD recorder would want a power and a SATA connected.

So please take pictures and post them for a better explanation.

Hi

There is no picture of the DVD to suggest what plugs in where.

The connectors are of different lengths and potentially are keyed in an "L" shape.
