Solved!

DVD Writer reading DVDS but not CDs

ENVY Desktop 795-0009na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The DVD Writer in my HP Envy is no longer reading CDs, however, it DOES read DVDs.

Greateful for ny help.

Hi:

 

DVD drives have two optical lenses.

 

One reads DVD's and the other reads CD's.

 

That is because CD's and DVD's are read at different focal lengths from each other.

 

Given the fact that the drive reads DVD's fine, and not CD's, there is a good chance the CD optical reading lens has failed, and the drive would need to be replaced.
