I would like to upgrade my CPU to the Ryzen 7 2700 with spire wraith LED cooling fan, but I need a bracket that the cooling fan can mount to. The screws are about 3 inches x 3 inches x 3 inches apart from point to point. I tried searching online but don’t see anything that seems to have the same specs. Any info would be greatly appreciated!  And I would rather use the newer cooler than the old one so hopefully there’s something out there?

Hi @MauiGuy1960,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're looking to upgrade the CPU in your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop to a Ryzen 7 2700 and want to use the included Wraith Spire LED cooling fan, you might need an adapter bracket to fit it onto your motherboard. Here's what you can do.

  • Check with AMD: First, check with AMD's official website or customer support to see if they offer any adapter brackets for their Wraith coolers to fit different socket types.
  • Measure and Confirm: Double-check the mounting hole dimensions on your motherboard to ensure compatibility with the adapter bracket you're considering. You mentioned the screws being about 3 inches apart from point to point, but this seems unusually large for a CPU cooler mounting mechanism. Standard coolers usually have mounting holes spaced much closer together.
  • Compatibility with Case: Also, ensure that the upgraded cooler will fit within your PC case without any clearance issues. Some larger coolers might have clearance problems in smaller cases.

Always ensure you have the necessary knowledge and tools before attempting any upgrades to your PC's hardware. Additionally, keep in mind that modifying your PC's hardware may void warranties, so proceed with caution and at your own risk.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello Alden4,

Thank you for your advice!  Since my mobo is customized by HP, I was able to find a YouTube video that showed how to install a CPU fan/cooler.  I went with a Noctua NH-L9x65 and use some of the screws and parts that come with it, to adapt it to my system.

About the screws being 3 inches apart, I mean to say that these screw points are where the old CPU fan/cooler were mounted to the mobo.  Sorry, not too good at explaining or describing my system.  Anyhow, parts are on order and looking forward to installing it.

I was able to return the Wraith cooler w/o issue.

Thanks again.
