How can I tell if I have a built-in (integral) microphone?

I've never have used - or wanted to use - a microphone on a computer until this weekend. Discovered no one could hear me. Did whatever troubleshooting I could find with no luck. I'm kinda shocked that this might not have one after all the bragging HP did about its hardware and B&O sound system, etc.

HP All-in-one desktop Not sure what model...threw the box away a week after buying it in 2018. Running Windows 10.

@Tuebor

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

  • Step 1: Run the audio recording troubleshooter
  • Step 2: Check microphone or line-in device status
  • Step 3: Check the device connection
  • Step 4: Check for an updated audio driver
  • Step 5: Check sound settings in the app or hardware driver where the issue occurs

Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01926155 to complete the troubleshooting steps.
(same steps for Windows 10 to identify Microphone realted issue)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello,

Thank you for responding. Here is the information you asked for:

Product number is: 2HJ22AA#ABA

Product name: HP Pavilion All-in-One 27-r0xx

I have run all those troubleshooting steps. Audio is fine, just no ability to record audio or for others to hear me on video calls.

Thank you for posting back.

I did go through the product spec and found out this computer model has microphone and headphone in same port no separate mic.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Ok, so then no built in microphone? To make video calls I will need to purchase an external microphone?

Thanks for your help.

You can use headphone or earphone which comes with mic in it.
