Do I need to switch off my hp Z3700 mouse when not in use?

@LesW, welcome to the forum.

 

Yes, it should be turned-off when not in use.  Here is the Manual for the mouse.  It shows the ON/OFF button in Figure 3, Item 1, on the bottom of the mouse.
