I can't find an available PCIe expansion slot on my computer to install a WLAN PCI Express Adapter. The computer specs say there is a PCIe expansion slot, but a picture of the motherboard points only to the back of the case where there are jacks for audio and headphones. Inspection inside the case shows that the two open brackets don't have slots beneath them to accept cards. Does this mean I have to return the PCI card and get a WIFI 6 adapter that will plug into a USB port?

Hi:

According to the motherboard specs for your PC, it does not have a PCIe x1 expansion slot.

HP Desktop PCs - motherboard specifications, Shire | HP® Customer Support

The motherboard illustration on the above link shows where the M.2 WLAN card goes (bottom right of the picture).

If your PC did not come with an internal WLAN card, you can install a desktop wifi kit such as this one...

Amazon.com: Intel Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+) Desktop Kit (AX200.NGWG.NV) : Electronics

The card goes in the empty M.2 WLAN slot and the antenna wires go to the PCI mounting bracket and you attach the external antennas on that.
