EliteDesk 800 G3 Mini
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I would like to upgrade my EliteDesk 800 G3 Mini (65W) which has currently got an i5 6500T.

I'm looking to upgrade to an i7 7700T. Looking at tech sheets, it looks like this CPU is supported with a possible BIOS update.

Has anyone else done this?

I've built systems before so know how to remove / install CPUs, change TIM, etc.

@Daw123 -- is this your computer: HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Desktop Mini Business PC (35 W/65 W) Specifications | HP® Customer Support

This page lists "compatible" i3/i5/i7 processors.

Presumably, no BIOS update is necessary, since I presume that it is possible that one could special-order this computer with one of the listed processors.

Given your current CPU:

Intel Core i5-6500 processor (65 W model only)

Up to 3.6 GHz maximum Turbo Frequency (3.2 GHz base frequency)
6 MB cache, 4 cores, 4 threads

what sort of performance upgrade do you expect to get, for your costs?

When you use the "Performance" tab of the Windows "Task Manager", does it show that your CPU is running at/near 100%, most of the time?

Hi, yes it is that one.

That's good that it's likely supported out the box for the i7 7th gen.

I bought this 2nd hand for £60, so even spending another £150 (sure I can get it for a lot less than that) on an i7 cpu, it'll be a cheap system overall.
