Envy 750-524
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I wondered why the DVD player never woked in my Envy. I opened the case and the power wasn;t connected. Looking around I notice that it takes an adapter of some sort to connect the power to the power supply. I browsed the net for one but didn't really see anything that seemed like it was a match. Any suggestions as where I could find one?

thanks in advance, Dan

You need to plug in SATA power from power supply PSU...you dont need any adapters to do that...

So that was a nice try but wrong. The DVD player on my Envy i very thin and the power connector on the back looks a lot like the data connector just a little larger. There is no where to plug in a typical power connector.

Yes i know its thin....its similar to a netbook drive..

and you should check your 300W PSU for the cable...if its the Original PSU that came with computer then you will have the connector for sure!

If not...buy a normal dvd-drive and install it...its under $30 anyway these days...as all kind of HP connectors and PSU are Custom Propietary and you wont be able to find adapters, connectors etc...

@Grizzlys2k,

The internal DVD drive is not a standard 5.25 factor. It is a very thin unit, and does require an adapter to power the unit. Here is the part numbers used for the DVD drive.

@Easy2b,

Can you look at the power header on the drive?  Is it 6 pins?  I remember this adapter.  Proof that it works.

See this video,  it shows the thin drive and the 6 pin power plug.
