OMEN 25L Desktop

Hi!

 

I just bought my Omen 25L desktop and I noticed something after a few days of use. There is a very subtle clicking sound coming from the computer every now and then. After examining the computer I realized the sound comes from the fan next to the power cord as it keeps starting and stopping. It seems as the fan continuously spins when doing something demanding on the computer (e.g. gaming) and the clicking disappears. Although the sound is very soft and cannot be heard if there is any sound coming from the speakers, it is quite annoying when doing light tasks on the computer. My questions are:

 

1. Is the fan working correctly? Is it supposed to keep starting and stopping when not doing strenuous tasks? Is the clicking usually there? Should i return the computer?

 

2. Is there any way to stop this from happening? I realize it could be smart not to keep the fan running constantly when the computer is at no risk of overheating but I think it would be neat if it can "decide" if it should be on or off and not keep switching in between.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:  

  • Shut down the computer, and then inspect and clean the exterior vents to remove dust buildup by blowing air through the vent openings. Dust can accumulate inside the vent openings and around internal cooling components, preventing the removal of heat.

  • After you remove the dust, turn on the computer. If the error message persists, continue with these steps.
  • Perform a hard reset. Performing a hard reset can reset recorded thermal values in memory and enable you to use the computer again, even if only for a short time to access and save any important files before service.

  • In some cases, updating the BIOS might help prevent this error from occurring. For more information on how to update the BIOS, see Updating the BIOS.
