Pavilion Elite HPE-540ch
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.

Can I use this GPU:
https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N710D5SL-2GL#ov

in this computer?
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-elite-hpe-500-desktop-pc-series/5035344/model/50572...

Computer running Windows 10 64-bit up to date. Speccy states PCI 16 slot available.
After physical installation, the computer freezes at HP slash screen, then it makes 1 beep, then another after about 25 seconds, that's all.

Any help welcome. I have read and tried out so many troubleshooting guides, with no success.

Hi:

Your PC has a legacy BIOS which limits you to installing legacy graphics cards.

The Nvidia GT 710 would require your PC to have a BIOS revision of 8.xx or newer and the latest BIOS revision for your model is 7.15.

You can't install any Nvidia card newer than one of the GT 6xx models, so the best you could do would be the GT 610.

You probably would have to find one of those cards on eBay in used but tested and working condition.

The AMD equivalent would be the HD 6450.

Thanks for your advice.

I can get a new GeForce GT 210, so I will try with that and comment on the result.

You're very welcome.

That card should work just fine.
