My desktop currently has a NVIDIA gt 730 2gb ddr3. I was advised that the Gigabyte GeForce GT 1030 2GB was compatible with the desktop.
Will it fit physically or will I have to obtain some sort of adapter?

The GT730 averages 6.6", the GT 1030 averages 6.8', so it fits.
Now, if you purchase a longer card, you need to measure.
