I wanted to know if it's possible to put in an AMD RADEON 9060XT gpu in my desktop computer.

I am aware of the psu upgrade needed also. Though I just want to confirm i can make the upgrade for an HP ENVY TE01 3254

Greetings @rspz23

Welcome to the HP Forum.

You should be able to do a: dual fan, dual slot, 9060 XT provided the length does not exceed about 9 inches to 9.5 inches.

Verify the PC's MB has the required PCIe x16 slot. You can also measure along the PCIe x16 slot to verify maximum graphics card length.

This Site has specifications for an AMD manufactured 9060 XT. This card requires a minimum 450 watt PSU having one eight pin power connector from the PSU.

You'll have to verify specs for the specific 9060 XT you are considering buying.

Your HP PC uses a non-standard PSU made by HP. You cannot use a standard ATX power supply with your PC's case and MB.

Let me know if you require PSU upgrade assistance.

Hello,

I appreciate the response! Though I wanted to throw in a few things that I got stumped when I attempted to do such upgrade a few weeks ago.

I purchased a Sapphire AMD Radeon 9060 XT 16 GB. I also did buy the compatible HP psu needed. However, when I installed the GPU, I did not get any picture from the GPU at all. For some strange reason my HP Envy desktop did not pick up the GPU. I had to use integrated graphics in order to see a picture. After several attempts at trouble shooting, I could not figure it out. The GPU was definitely getting power because I did see both fans spinning.

I even went through the trouble of updating my BIOS. I ask because I just want to make sure that the HP Envy TE01 3254 is capable of accepting said GPU upgrade. That said, do you happen to have any possible solutions or any insight on what could be the issue?

Thank you!

My pleasure.

The 9060 XT is a PCIe 5.0 card, And this graphics card should be backwards compatible with PCIe 4.0/3.0 MBs.

But I had an interaction with a HP Omen owner Here. An Nvidia 5070 (PCIe 5.0) would not work with an Omen MB.

I can only suggest disabling Secure Boot and enabling Legacy Support to see if the 9060 will provide video out.

I out of ideas if the 9060 will not work when Secure Boot is disabled.

Hello,

I appreciate the response!  I have installed an NVIDIA 5060 ti 16gb before and my hp envy did pick it up and I got picture out of the gpu.

However, because I was concerned of the power limitations with this desktop, I decided not to chance it and sent back the 5060ti because this desktop is limited to a 500 watt psu upgrade.

I would rather use an AMD 9060 xt if I could but for some strange reason it didn't work.

Now, you have mentioned, disabling secure boot. If by chance I did that and it DID work, would keeping secure boot off have any negative impact on my desktop?

Thank you,

Okay. the 9060 is working having Secure Boot disabled.

It's better to have Secure Boot enabled. It's another layer of protection to stop Rootkits.

I'm not familiar with your PC's BIOS.

But you could check for a BIOS "enroll custom key option" which may allow you to use the 9060 with Secure Boot on. Or check to see if the HP BIOS provides a custom Secure Boot option.

I've done this (custom Secure Boot option) on retail MBs such as Asus, MSI, AsRock, and Gigabyte MBs.

I wish MB manufacturers would automatically include: AMD and Nvidia BIOS support in the Secure Boot (PK) database.
