HP Pavilion 500-046
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone,

I was going to get the calculator by clicking on the left-hand corner MS icon, but passed another window on the bottom bar as I guided the cursor to the icon.  The window popped up, froze in place, then the entire screen froze.  I waited for 4-5 minutes, but it never unfroze.  So I turned off the computer, and when it rebooted, the monitor came on, the cursor worked, but nothing showed on the blank, black monitor.

I do not think the HD is spinning, we do not hear it.  Just the fan is working.

Can a HD that's not spinning, be fixed?  If not, does anybody know of a good computer clinic that can recover the data in my HD?

Thanks for any help you can give me!!!

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

I suggest running HP Hardware Diagnostics (Link).

Tap "ESC" at boot.

Select "F2".

Run System Tests. You can also run Component tests.

Regards
