Trying to use the Micro SD card reader on my Pavilion Desktop but when I insert the card, nothing happens and it does not show up in my hardware list.  Is this slot strictly for memory expansion?  If so, can I use a USB micro sd card reader plugged into my USB port to access files on the card?  Thanks.

@WOODY994,

Interesting inquiry. The 550 series has a SD card reader. You would need an adapter to use a micro SD card.

Have you set your Autoplay to "open" the SD card? Control panel, AutoPlay, look for Camera Storage , Memory card.  And yes, you could use a USB card reader. I use the Transcend USB3.0 model linked here, it has SD and micro SD port.

I went through the steps you suggested and yes the Autoplay was not on for the Memory card so I did turn it on, but still does not recognize the SD Card.  I think I will go with the USB interface you suggested.  Getting some new security cameras and they record on Micro SD cards and want to make sure I can access on my Desktop.  Thanks again Wb2001.

Sorry for jumping in, you can also use an adapter to do the job

I know many vendors sell microSD cards and they include adapters, specially Samsung, Kingston (shown above), SanDisk ...
