Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

 I'm wanting to upgrade my processor to a i7-2600 and my GPU to a GTX 1060 or a GTX 1660.. but my big question is, what power supply do i need for the HP compaq 6200 MT?? Will a modular power supply will do, or a standard? Which cables will i be able to find that are compatible with this HP business computer? And the wattage is 320 and that's clearly not enough for the GTX 1060, or the i7-2600

@DerCrysis,

Apparently you do not know the origin of that unit?

Circa Sept 2011, you will need to verify the Boot Environment, so go here.

If it is BIOS, your never going to be able to use any card greater than the GTX 660.

On the processor issue, yes you can. See here for the exact chip numbers on the chart.

Hi DerCrysis,

The HP Compaq 6200 Pro MT PC supported below processors

  • Intel Core i7-2600 (3.40 GHz, 8MB cache, 4 cores)
  • Intel Core i5-2500 (3.30 GHz, 6MB cache, 4 cores)
  • Intel Core i5-2400 (3.10 GHz, 6MB cache, 4 cores)
  • Intel Core i3-2120 (3.30 GHz, 3MB cache, 2 cores)
  • Intel Core i3-2100 (3.10 GHz, 3MB cache, 2 cores)

You can't install a full-size graphics card because the PC chassis supported low profile card only.

For graphics cards, GTX 1060 and GTX 1660 required minimum 500 W power supply or greater with one 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector.

@DerCrysis,

The HP 6200 MT is circa Dec 2011, and had WIN 7.  That makes it suspect to only "BIOS".   That would prevent UEFIvBIOS cards like the GTX 1060.  Until you answer the Boot Environment issue, there is really no need to proceed with any GPU upgrade.

@Paul_Tikkanen,

IMHO, you know these old HP Business Class units better than most !!!

Would the 600W PSU from an 8200 series work with the 6200.  I know both use an rather unique and proprietary PSU wiring (non - standard) plugs.

Hi:

The max power supply for the 6200 Pro MT is 320W.

As far as I know, it cannot be upgraded because it is proprietary.

The 6200 Pro has a UEFI BIOS and uses the same BIOS family as the 8200 Elite series, which I have.

I am running a GT1030 in my 8200 Elite with BIOS v02.28.  Works just fine.

I would just install a GTx 1050ti, in there and live with it.  That only requires a 300W P/S.

Otherwise, you need to be looking into a business Workstation PC with a more robust power supply such as one of the Z8xx models.

The 6200 Pro model series was designed for light office productivity.
