DC5100 MT
Microsoft Windows XP

For the DC5100 MT

It has 2 USB ports in front

In rear there is 4 in a row and then below that there is 2 so 8 USB ports total

Using windows XP Pro 32 bit

Please explain as to the port location, which would be USB port 1, etc to label each as to their location and USB port number ?

Or any document that would show what each USB port is number assigned

It looks like only 2 of the 8 USB ports are version 2.0

and the other 6 are only USB version 1.1, is this correct ?

If so is there a way to change drivers or some settings to make those 6 ports also version 2.0 ?

If there is a driver that could do that were can I locate and download USB port/hub drivers ?

Thanks

@teamzr1 , welcome to the forum.

Here is the Product Specifications page for the computer: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-compaq-dc5100-microtower-pc/454811/document/c00279324

If you look at the section titled "Ports", it states that there are 8 USB 2.0 ports (2 front; 6 rear).  The USB 2.0 ports have a black insert.  The USB 1.x are white inserts.  Also, here is the Illustrated Parts Map: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00281919

Thanks for the reply

I do not see anything in that PDF as to USB ports or colors of them as to being V 1.1 or 2 ?

Question is I would think if 2 ports are V2 is there a HP driver or software that would make the other 6 USB ports changed to also being V2 ?

HP Recommended

You are welcome, @teamzr1!

You will have to look at the ports in your computer to see the color of the inserts.  No, there is no way using software or a driver to change all of the ports to USB 2.0.

I looked closely with a light and all 8 USB ports are same black color

I located a H/P service tech program I had to burn that image to a bootable C/D and set BIOS so it booted off that C/D and then ran the tests shown below

All 8 USB ports pasted so not a hardware issue

the 2 USB ports that are V 2.0 report 480 Mbp/s where all the other USB ports report as version 1.1 and only 12 Mbp/s or less

I can find no H/P document to show which USB port is which so no idea which physical 2 ports are version 2

I took 8 different USB memory dongles and everyone of them fail when put in as Win XP Pro pops up and says none supported device and device manager shows as "unknown device"

BTW all those dongles work just fine on other desktops or laptops using WIndows, XP, 7, 8.1 and 10

But I can take one of those memory dongles and use the same USB port and like 4 out of 5 times fails but then 1 time

that dongle is seen but a low speed

So will it work on a random basis but most times fails ?

Someone has to know which 2 USB ports are the Version 2 as of now no USB memory dongle can be used and I need it for certain programs I use

Thus my other question still is which 2 are V 2 USB and could there be a older USB hub or drivers need to be replaced ?

NO PC product ID # told so looking up what motherboard is hard, super hard in many cases.

a relic it is..

First guess.:

Intel Pentium 4 Processor with HT Technology and Celeron D processors

Intel 915GV (ouch)(ICH6)

USB 2.0 - 8 ports (2 front, 6 rear) , nothing else needs knowing here , right?

your PC spec is clear

and no ,software can NOT make USB 1 o 2 hardware become new USB3 silicon.

sorry no 3D silicone printers inside, just joking but funny no? to change the ICH6 intel chip=usb2.0

the PCI-e slots are slow(v1)

they sell PCI-e USB 3 cards the ones with 4lanes go faster. (and cost why more)

buy the card,  put it in, newegg.com

better is 2015 or newer PC, for sure.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU, sorry PC is so old...

OMG XP

the last person on earth running the VIRUS magnet XP

XP has no support for 6 long years.

XP has no driver for NEW USB DEVICES EVER EVER AGAIN, it is DEAD JIM

the ICH6 chip is what it is, read the data sheet on the intel ICH6 chip. this chip now is 16 years old,

and is very very limited, in speed, see here.

intel ended support < MS did and so did HP they get there drivers from intel , ICH6 is intels chip nobody else.

next time pos  like this.

"XP will not read new USB thumb drives."

answer because it can not. lacking both drivers, ICH6 and for the new thumb drives chip XP can not support

in fact XP does not support most USB things made since 2014,  a fact.

or buy a year 2001 to 2014 USB thumb drive, I'd go a tad below 2014 to be safe.

and why are you doing XP now?

you will only get infected  then infect the reset of the world.

not good that.

Model is 2UA6460HKT

BIOS is Verson 1.09 of 8/6/08

Could you at least find or tell me which of the 8 USB ports, 2 are Version 2 as specs say

as the other 6 are version 1.1

I cannot find anything that shows the 2 front and 6 rear ones which 2

are the V2 USB ports and their locations of the 8 ports

Thanks for you time ,

I am using this older HP DC5100 MT because programs and functions I use for my business were written for XP and some of the programs either do not work well with newer MSwindows versions such as windows 7,8,10 or

Those programs are not longer made so no newer versions exist for the newer MSwindows

These programs, functions use multi USB ports at a time and are very costly products.

At least if I could find out which of the 8 USB ports are the Version 2 as the 6 that are version 1.1 will not even see any type of USB memory dongle and seen as device unknown would be a help and then I guess

I buy and add into a PCI slot a product that has V 2 USB ports

Thanks
