HP Elite 8300 SFF
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Elite 8300 SFF pc with the i5-3470 that came with it. I was planning on upgrading it in the next couple months, but I was wondering something. I know that the manual states that it can also support the i7-3770, but my question is shouldn't any Intel LGA1155 processor work with it? For instance the i7-2600?

A PC's BIOS only contains support for the compatible processors that a manufacturer provides. The manufacturer has engineers who program the BIOS, provide the multiplier and bus voltage requirements for the processors that are designated as optional processors. The QA lab runs burn -in tests on each processor to ensure that everything works as expected.

That means that a processor that is not in the list is unlikely to even allow the motherboard to boot. If it does boot to Windows, it still may exhibit unexpected and unreliable behavior.

You may even see the dreaded incompatible CPU error message onscreen.

My BIOS is up to date though. My current BIOS version is K01 v03.04 10/5/2016 which is the newest version of BIOS for my pc. With that being said I know that new BIOS updates can add support for newer CPUs so now my question is, are there any i7 processors other than the 3770 that my motherboard will officially support now that my BIOS is updated?

On the same page where the BIOS can be downloaded, there is an enhancements section which explains what changes an improvements the update provides.

You should consider reading that.
