Hello,

 

I purchased this desktop about a year ago and it is pretty new. For the past two weeks or so I have noticed the fan is running all the time, even when idle. The only time it doesn't run is when turned off completely. I have been watching task manager and nothing seems to be taking up a lot of CPU usage (usually sits at about 1-3% when just background processes). The fans are not working hard or putting out any hot air, just always on. I left the computer on overnight last night and woke up to a thermal shutdown so now I am really concerned. I have also cleaned out all my startup tasks. What other steps can I can?

Although it would be nice to know the exact model number, PSU wattage, and GPU card installed (because of variations) in general it seems to need a through cleaning.   In the following. SKIP 6a and 6b. Use a "pipe cleaner' wick to clean between the heasink fins. Do not remove the heatsink.  Read now.
