Oman Desktop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an Oman Desktop Gaming PC. It has a 128GB internal SSD on which the windows operating system is installed. The disk is full and I can't install windows upgrades etc. I have data and files on other drives - this is all windows and application bloat. Any suggestions?

@JimmyJuice , welcome to the forum.

What is the Product Number of the computer? I need this information to review the specifications of it. Please don't furnish the Serial # or other personal information. You can find the Product Number at the bottom of the page when you open HP Support Assistant.

Thank you for the additional information, @JimmyJuice!

Your best option would be to install a larger M.2, SSD.  I am partial to Samsung M.2, SSD's, because they seem to work best with a  HP BIOS/UEFI.  Here is one that should work for you: https://www.newegg.com/samsung-970-pro-512gb/p/N82E16820147693?Description=samsung%20970%20pro&cm_re...

You will have to buy a USB M.2 adapter like this one: https://www.tvc-mall.com/details/usb-3-0-to-nvme-m-key-m-2-ngff-ssd-external-pcba-conveter-adapter-c...

The adapter in the link is for an example of what you need.  I don't know anything about the seller.  You would have to do some research on them before buying their product.

This will allow you to install your new M.2 into the M.2 socket on the motherboard and transfer the information from the old M.,2 in the USB adapter.  You would install Samsung's Data Migration software on your current M.2 and run it.  It would ask for the target drive and you would select the new M.2.  Once the data is transferred, you can go into the BIOS and set it as the boot drive.  Also, you could continue to use the 128 GB M.2 for a boot drive from the adapter if you have future problems.  This is the advantage of Win 10.  It allows booting from a USB drive.

If you have extra free space on other hard drives you could relocate your user folders to that other hard drive. See this thread: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Z240-added-New-HDD/m-p/7793405#...

You can move desktop, documents, music, pictures, and downloads.

If that doesn't free up enough or you can't figure out where all the space is being used up there are two things to try:

1. Run disk cleanup in administrator mode (make sure you don't put a checkmark beside "Downloads" if you have important information in your downloads folder, everything else you can put a checkmark beside): https://winaero.com/how-to-run-disk-cleanup-directly-in-the-system-files-mode-and-speed-it-up/

2. I like to use a program called SequoiaView to see what files are hogging space. It's an ancient program but runs on Windows 10 no problem: https://www.techspot.com/downloads/7108-sequoiaview.html

Good luck on your search for free space!
