Omen 870-287nc
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have problem with my Omen 870-287nc, i7 7700k, GTX 1080.

When I play games and the game loads, the cpu temperature rises to 98-100C until the computer completly shuts down. This happens in some games. I also don't like that I usually have average CPU temperatures around 85-87C while playing games like Battlefield or Forza, it doesn't feel safe to me. Default stock HP settings.

Can someone help me, please?

Greetings,

Welcome back to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

I would say you have a CPU thermal problem.

Could be time to reapply thermal paste on the CPU or upgrade the CPU cooler.

How are GPU temps and chassis airflow in general.

These three items will cause internal heat buildup if the heat is not properly removed from the chassis.

Hi Grzwacz,

General temps are like 35-40, when I am browsing on internet about 45-50.

I thought that the fan couldn't be replaced in HP.

Hi,

I have never worked on this HP chassis.

You have the CPU, GPU, and VRMs packed into one small area on the motherboard. All of these components generate heat when you game. Some games stress both the CPU and the GPU.

I can only suggest reapplying CPU thermal paste first, then look at replacing the CPU cooler if reapplying thermal paste does not help. Check graphics card temps when gaming to see if this component is contributing to high chassis and CPU temps.

See if it is possible to add additional chassis fans to remove the heat being generated by all of these components when gaming.

You will see the CPU prematurely fail if you continue to experience sustained CPU temps in the 90 + degree Celsius range.

I don't know how to replace the fan in HP computer, I don't know if it is possible at all...

Hi,

I would guess your PC ran cool until recently? Your PC is about three years old (release date is Feb. 2017).

You should be able to have a local PC tech diagnose and fix the problem?

No, I have this problem since I bought it. Previous recommendations did not help at all( they recommended me to update the drivers, which was wrong idea), so here I am again after 3-years with same results.

HI,

A good, local PC tech should be able to fix the problem.

You should have contacted HP Support when the PC was in warranty.
