Hello, I had a quick question on Upgrades to my HP Pavilion TG01-2!
I've recently bought a Ryzen 5 5600 alongside a Nvidia 3070. As I am aware, for the GPU to be installed I'd need to install a new power-supply? I was unsure which one to buy for my model, furthermore, I was wondering if the Ryzen 5 5600 would work in my system, I know HP likes to lock the motherboards to certain CPUs such as a Ryzen 5600G. Would these upgrades would be possible, maybe not for the GPU though I mainly need the CPU upgrade at the moment. Some insight on the matter would be great.

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
1. CPU Upgrade — Ryzen 5 5600 Compatibility:
You're absolutely right to be cautious here.
Your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-2xxx as fitted with the Erica6 motherboard with SSID: 8906 (used in TG01-2xxx models) typically supports only APUs (G-series Ryzen chips), based on HP’s own documentation and real-world User benchmark reports.
These are:
✅Ryzen 3 5300G
✅Ryzen 5 5600G
✅Ryzen 7 5700G
Unfortunately:
❌The Ryzen 5 5600 (non-G version) does not work in Erica6 boards due to OEM BIOS limitations -even though it uses the same AM4 socket and architecture.
Solution:
You’ll need to return the 5600 (if possible) and replace it with a Ryzen 5 5600G or better still, the Ryzen 7 5700G instead.
2. GPU Upgrade — RTX 3070 + PSU Considerations:
Yes, you will absolutely need a stronger power supply. The stock PSU in the Pavilion TG01 is usually 180-watt to 400-watt, which is far too weak to power an RTX 3070.
NVIDIA RTX 3070 Minimum PSU Recommendation:
At least 650-watt
80+ Bronze or better
One or two 8-pin PCIe connectors depending on your GPU variant
- Please Note: most larger-sized (triple fan) RTX 3070 models will not fit in your case due to length
Recommended PSU (known to fit your TG01 case as it did in my HP Pavilion TP01-3xxx, a related PC):
Proprietary HP 650-watt power supply with p/n: L57253-003 / L36049-003 (which you can purchase via eBay).
Kind Regards,
