I purchased a HP Slimline Destop - 260-p029l running an i3-6100 non T with 8gb of ram. My motherboard 81B4 has socket 1151 and H170 chip. I wan to upgrade and is interested in a faster processor. Can I upgrade to 7th gen cpu? Ex: I7-7700
Current BIOS Version F.04, Do I need to update to the latest bios version F.42 Rev.A?
Thanks !

Your PC's motherboard only supports the following processors:
Processor upgrade information
- TDP: 35 W
- Socket type: LGA 1151
- Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:ProcessorTDPIntegrated GraphicsIntel Core i7-6700T (Skylake) 2.8 GHz Quad Core35 WIntel HD Graphics (GT2)Intel Core i5-6400T (Skylake) 2.2 GHz Quad Core35 WIntel HD Graphics (GT2)Intel Core i3-6100T (Skylake) 3.2 GHz Dual Core35 WIntel HD Graphics 530Intel Pentium G4400T (Skylake) 2.9 GHz35 WIntel HD Graphics 510Intel Celeron G3900T (Skylake) 2.6 GHz35 WIntel HD Graphics 510
I realize the specs do not mention the i3-6100 that someone installed in the PC, but that processor is a 51W processor and if you were to install an i7-6700, that is a 65W processor and it may be remotely possible that may not work with your PC's weak180W power supply.
Intel® Product Specification Comparison
The parts list does not indicate how many watts the heat sink is rated to support.
You'd have to hope it is rated to support a 65W processor.
This Amazon listing indicates the heat sink is only rated to support processors up to 45W.

Below is the link to the chipset specs for the chipset your PC's motherboard comes with:
According to the compatible products tab, the Intel i7-7700T processor is supported by the chipset.
Looking at the BIOS release notes, I see no BIOS updates that added support for the Intel 7th generation core processors.

I cannot find any posts where someone installed an Intel 7th gen core processor in the Hamar motherboard your PC has.
I cannot find any reports of PC's using that motherboard where anyone reported installing an Intel 7th gen core processor.

Based on the foregoing information, I would say that an Intel 7th generation core processor most likely would not work, and it would not be worth the $50 - $60 gamble.
Go for the sure thing and install the i7-6700T for $40 - $50.
I have a HP 800 G3 Desktop Mini PC which has the i5-6500T installed and it works very well, and I am also running W11 24H2 on it too.

Hey everyone,
I'm a video editor using Adobe software, and I'm looking to speed up my workflow. I currently have an HP Slimline Desktop with an i3-6100 processor. I'm considering upgrading to a 7th-gen Intel Core i7-7700.
Question 1: Will this upgrade significantly improve my video editing performance?
Question 2: My current BIOS version is F.04. Do I need to update it to the latest version F.42 Rev.A to support the 7th-gen CPU?
Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated!
