Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-e0000 (2V8Z5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I am facing this problem with my HP VICTUS AMD RYZEN 7 Laptop since a lot of time now, that it stops charging automatically in the night, and then resumes charging any time in the day. And also this is not a fixed pattern, i can certainly say that at a given time, it's completely on my luck if the laptop is gonna charge or not.

I tried a lot of fixes to to solve this, but nothing has worked yet. The fixes that I tried are :

i) I checked the port for any sort of dust, cleaned the dust properly. Also checked if the pin was bent, but that was not the case.

ii) Replaced my AC adapter and tried with a different adapter, but the issue doesn't resolve

iii) Once in a while, i tried uninstalling the battery drivers and then restarting the Laptop, but the problem was merely solved for a 10 minutes.

iv) Updated the bios using HP hardware diagnostics, still the issue persists.

v) Did a whole system extensive checkup, as well as performed individual battery tests in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics, and all the tests were resulting PASSED.

I tried to contact the HP technical support too, but unfortunately it didnt help at all. Also I do not agree that I need to replalce my motherboard entirely with a new one (which is a heavily expensive option), because my laptop does charge, it has not permanently stopped charging.

Any sort of advice would be encouraged. Looking forward for some solutions.

Thanks a lot.

Hi @Vamsi1234,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It must be incredibly frustrating to deal with such an unpredictable charging issue, especially when you've already tried so many fixes. I understand how inconvenient this can be, and I'd like to help you troubleshoot further.

To better understand the situation:

  1. Have you noticed if the charging issue occurs at specific battery levels or in different power outlets?
  2. Does the charging problem happen when the laptop is powered off or only when it's running?

Here are a few additional steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check for Power Settings: Ensure that your laptop’s power settings are not limiting the charging, especially under sleep or hibernation modes. Go to Control Panel > Power Options and check if the settings allow charging even during sleep.

Battery Calibration: Perform a battery calibration to reset the battery sensors. Drain the battery completely, recharge it to 100% without interruption, and repeat the cycle once or twice.

Click here to test and calibrate the battery.

Turn Off USB PowerShare: If your laptop has a feature called USB PowerShare (which allows charging USB devices when the laptop is off), try turning it off in the BIOS settings. It may interfere with charging.

Update Power Management Drivers: Ensure that all Power Management and Chipset drivers are up to date via HP Support Assistant or Device Manager.

Check for System Interrupts: Open Task Manager when the issue happens and check if any process (e.g., high CPU usage under “System Interrupts”) is related to the charging issue, which might point to hardware conflicts.

Try updating the Bios if not done already. Click here

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, I recommend contacting HP phone support to investigate if this is a hardware issue, given that your laptop is still within warranty.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi there, thanks for the reply.

I had already tried all that you suggested, the battery calibration test, and updaating bios. I have checked a plenty of times but there are no softwares or drivers that are not up to date. And apart from that, i even tried deleting almost all of the drivers from device manager and restarted the laptop, still the issue persists.

(Current update : My laptop haven't picked up any charge since the last 24 hours literally, and this is starting to worry me now)

I am in deep distress. I am pursuing my bachelors in one of the finest universities here in India, and took this laptop using the money I received in my student loan, and it's just one year of using this laptop (HP Victus AMD RYZEN 7) and it's in such a state that it's started to put me in panic. None of the people in the customer service are able to help me unfortunately, they just say to get the motherboard replaced (which comes at a cost of INR 70,000, which is the price at which I bought the laptop itself one year back)

Also, about the 2 questions that you asked :

1) No, the issue may occur at any particular battery level, and at any moment of time, regardless of the fact if the display is at sleep or waken up.

2) it doesn't matter if its powered off or not, the issue occurs at its will.

Hi @Vamsi1234 ,

We apologize for the inconvenience, but it seems that the issue persists even after attempting the troubleshooting steps mentioned above.

This might require one-on-one interaction via remote assistance to fix the issue over the phone
