HP Z840
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I ran the PC Health Check from Microsoft, to see if my Z840 is compatible with an OS upgrade to Win11.  According to the PC Health Check my pc is not upgradeable for two reasons.

1. TPM must be supported and enabled on this pc but it is not found

2. The current processor is not supported

My processor(s) are the Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2630 v4 @ 2.20GHz   2.20 GHz  (2 processors)

Is there any hardware upgrades for my pc that would make me compatible with win11?

Thank you,  JIM

Hi, Jim:

There aren't any W11-capable processors you can upgrade to for your PC, however if your PC came with Windows from HP, the TPM is probably disabled in the BIOS.

Here is the list of W11-supported Intel processors:

Here is the list of supported processors for your PC: See pages 3 & 4.

HP Z840 Workstation (zworkstations.com)

To enable the TPM, go to the BIOS setup menu>Security>TPM Embedded Security>change the setting from Hidden to Available, save the setting there and again when you exit the BIOS.

You can refer to the service manual, chapter 2, page 28 for the location of this setting.

Hopefully after W11 comes out, there will be some geniuses out there that will be able to figure out how to install W11 on most PC's that can run W10, and we will see some YouTube videos on how to make that happen.

I'm currently running W11 Pro on an old HP 8200 Elite 2nd gen core processor from 2011, and it works fine.

Keep an eye on this website from time to time for further developments regarding W11.

First, thank you for your response and information.  I have looked over but still think I am at an impasse.  I set the BIOS admin password.  My TPM is currently Version 1.2 with Device set as Available, State set as enable. and Clear set as Do Not Clear.  Running the PC Health Check again still tells me I don't have TPM 2.0 and the wrong processor.  Is it possible to upgrade TPM to 2.0?

You're very welcome,

See if the discussion at the link below is of help to you to upgrade the TPM from v1.2 to 2.0.

You will have to clean install W11 if the processor is not supported.

If you want to see if W11 works on your PC, you can make a bootable W11 USB installer from the link below.

If for some reason, W11 does not work correctly on your PC, you can reinstall W10.

I currently have W11 clean installed on two PC's that I have, that do not meet the requirements for the W11 upgrade and they both work fine on W11 so far.

My HP 8200 Elite CMT running W11 Pro, only has the TPM 1.2 version and it cannot be upgraded since the hardware version was too old.

I used the free Macrium Reflect software to make system images of the W10 installation before I installed W11.

You may want to do the same.

Make a system image using Macrium reflect, and if W11 doesn't work right, you can easily go back to your current W10 installation.

You save the image on a portable hard drive and the software will have you make a bootable USB flash drive or DVD you boot from to access the system image stored on the portable hard drive.
