HP desktop will not recognize my usb external hard drive

Computer is brand new Windows 11.  trying to obtain photos and docs stored on external usb hard drive used with HP windows 10 64 bit computer.  New computer will not recognize the usb hard drive.  Have used different usb ports with different usb cables.  How can I get new HP computer to recognize usb hard drive in order to get to photos and docs?

was the ext usb drive used on another system that enabled "bitlocker?"

do other usb devices work (like a usb key) in the win 11 systems usb port?

do you hear a soft chime when the ext usb drive is connected/disconnected? no chime means the device has a hardware related issue  or a corrupted win usb driver

when the ext usb drive is connected, does it chime and does the windows 11 " disk management command show the usb drive? does it have a drive letter assigned to it?

you can launch the Run box to access it.

1. Press the Windows + R shortcut to wake the Run dialog.
2. Type "diskmgmt. msc" in the open field and click the OK button.  "Disk Management" will run instantly.
