Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

Does anyone know if the 24-f0020na and the 24-f0021na support ether a standard SSD drive or a m.2 drive as I am looking to upgrade both from the old HDD.

Thanks,

Stephen

Hi, @BadgerUk

You can install a M.2 NVMe SSD in your notebook's M.2 slot.

These discussion shows that other models in the 24-f0xxx model series with the Tuscany motherboard could come with M.2 NVMe SSD's.

Note the comment in the last discussion that the M.2 slot seems to be PCIe Gen 3x2, and not x4.

You have a SATA interface. So you can exchange it with a 2,5" Sata SSD.

Then you fix it with tape, because it's smaller and much faster.

Both of those have One M.2 socket 3, 2280 type for SSD.  They also have a standard SATA for the hard drive and therefore should be able to accept a SSD that is configured to replace a standard SATA drive.  A SATA SSD replacement drive will be 2.5", so if the HDD is a 3.5" drive, an mounting adapter will be needed.  The spec page does not indicated the drive size, just the capacity.

Assuming you have backups of the present drives, you should be good to install either type and then use the backup to get things running.  If you do not have backups and wish to keep everything "as is" but just new drive, now is the time to make exact copies of the system to external media before doing anything.

What are your thoughts on what will be done to install either type drive?

Thanks for replying. My preference is a M.2 drive for the small extra cost compared to the massive speed increase over a normal SDD, (that is of course if its a PCIE-3 port and not a SATA one, something else I cant seem to find any information on...)  plus the need for an adapter as you mentioned makes the cost difference even less.

As for windows, its either a fresh install of 10 or 11.

OK.  Make the M2 drive will work with that/those PC's.

Crucial guarantees the components they recommend.  Here is what they recommend.

Thanks for that. I will go a head and buy two PICE 3 M.2 drives and see how I get on. Ill report back how that goes so others can find an answer.

You're very welcome.

Are you going to test both of them out separately?

You can't install two of them at the same time.

HP Recommended

Sorry, 1 drive for each PC so 2 in total.

Gotcha.

You have two different model numbers that have the same motherboard.

I overlooked that.
