You have a LGA 775 socket. To remove the CPU you just need to lift the lever at the side of the socket, lift the metallic "frame" that holds the processor in position and carefully lift the processor straight up and out of the socket. Install of the new CPU is in the reverse order, matching the position of the old CPU . DO NOT touch the pins on the socket that are left exposed once the CPU is out. If you bend 1 of them you're in trouble, and they're very easy to damage. Of course to get to the CPU you need to open the computer and remove the shields and the heatsink on top of the CPU. Don't forget to apply thermal paste over the new CPU before mounting the heatsink again.

As for recommendations on what CPU to install, there's not enough information here. What's the model of your motherboard? What's your actual CPU?
