I've bought a hp235w 64gb pendrive from Swiggy and started copying data. 25 gb copied and then received error that pendrive is write protected. Tried cmd and other things but still not working. Not letting copy data from and to pendrive.

Any solutions?

Hi @Varun61,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the issue of a write-protected HP 235w 64GB pen drive where you're unable to copy data, you can try the following steps.

Check for Physical Write Protection

  1. Check the Pen Drive: Some pen drives have a physical switch to toggle the write protection. Ensure it's set to 'unprotected'.

Use Diskpart Command

  1. Open Command Prompt: Click Start, type cmd, and run as administrator.
  2. Open Diskpart: Type diskpart and press Enter in the command prompt.
  3. List Disks: Type list disk and press Enter to see a list of all the disks connected to your computer.
  4. Select the Pen Drive: Type select disk X (replace X with the corresponding number of your pen drive) and press Enter.
  5. Clear Write Protection: Type attributes disk clear readonly and press Enter to remove write protection.
  6. Exit Diskpart: Type exit and press Enter to close the diskpart tool.

Format the Pen Drive

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, formatting the pen drive may be necessary. Please note that this will erase all data on the pen drive:

  1. Backup Important Data: If possible, backup any important data that you can access.
  2. Format the Drive:
    • Go to 'This PC' (or 'My Computer').
    • Right-click on the pen drive and select 'Format'.
    • Choose the file system (FAT32/NTFS) and default allocation size.
    • Click on 'Start' to format.

Use Disk Management

  1. Open Disk Management: Right-click on 'This PC' or 'My Computer' and select 'Manage', then choose 'Disk Management'.
  2. Locate the Pen Drive: Find your pen drive in the list.
  3. Right-Click: Right-click the pen drive and select ‘Change Drive Letter and Paths’. Click 'Remove' and then ‘Add’ to reassign a drive letter.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
