OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-0000i (393C6AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I recently bought an HP Omen 45L (Product number: 33T58AA#ABA) and it came with a 500G SSD and 1 TB Hard drive.  I would like to add a second SSD with the type of SSD that would work best, but I can't seem to find the specs of any of the 2 SSD slots.

What are the SSD slot specs and what SSD drive would perform best?

Thanks!

Both of your M.2 SSD slots are gen4

If you run MSINFO it will give you the name and model of the existing SSD.

Just get a duplicate or what is in your budget.

The below shows a 1tb Western Digital Blue 2280 NVMe

I tried to install a 2nd SSD, but it won't fit. I removed the cooler element and I can see a 2nd slot, but it's just too long to fit in that space. I don't want to use any physical power.. The new SSD is identical to the one that was already there (on the top slot).

Does anyone have a video to install a 2nd SSD on this PC?

Any cooling options when/if it fits?

I ended up buying a Samsung 980 PRO PCIe® 4.0 NVMe™ SSD 2TB and installed it and a GLOTRENDS M.2 Heatsink for 2280 M.2 PCIe 4.0/3.0 NVMe SSD without any issues.  What did you buy and what does it look like?  Are you looking at the correct slot?

Hi,

This is the 2nd SSD I tried to install:

OmenArne_0-1668686831985.png

So compared to the specs, it should fit. It would not fit in the slot closest to the motherboard, but it fit in the top one where there was one from earlier. Anything I've missed? Other ways to install this (PCIe etc)? I already have 1xRTX card in the slot.

My model is HP OMEN 45L GT22-0414NO

I was unable to find an image of the Omen motherboard at any HP site but I read that the motherboard is the z690 (or a variation tailored for HP)

Does the following look correct?

I have not seen the inside of an Omen 45 but I am guessing that the graphics card covers the top m.2 slot land if the graphics card is RTX-30xx it might even cover part of the bottom slot.  In either case I suspect a heat sink will not fit.  Is there a plate that covers (hides) the m.2 slots?  Looking at some of the z690 variations (above url) one cannot even see the m.2 slots.

Possibly this video may work if the HP version has the same layout

Hey, thanks for your help 🙂

My case looks like this:

OmenArne_0-1668700561165.png

Marked in red is the SSD M.2 slots, and they are above each other, so you should stack them it seems.

I removed the installed M.2 and it was a cooling pad attached to it covering the slot below. I could not put the existing M.2 SSD in the below slot as well (yes I removed the cooling pad) as well as the new one. It seemed to be too long and wouldn't come in place.

The yellow is the RTX30xx card.

Thisi is the motherboard I have:

right after I posted that picture I realized that z690 was the chipset and not the model name of the motherboard

It is difficult to find a picture of the HP BlizzardOC motherboard that your system is specified as using

the specification for the BlizzardOC motherboard clearly states two m.2 SSD and a single m.2 for WiFi

I found a picture of a genuine Omen 45 here but the m.2 is clearly reversed from your photo

Another other m.2 are not shown.

the picture you posted shows an m.2.with the locking pin adjacent to the heat sink instead of the CPU socket

It looks like a 2280 will fit.  Is that correct?

If a heat sink cannot fit on the SSD then use a fan with cable ties to direct air down to the surface of the motherboard.

Alternately obtain a lower performance SSD that does not heat up like the WD Blue SN570

Hello. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Is this the one you bought?

Alongside this heat sink?

CS45L_1-1673114217342.png

It seems that the hard drive has already a heat sink?

You installed on your 45L on the socket just below the CPU, correct?

As I understand your are misunderstanding the situation

Both slots are not supposed to be stacked on each other in the same place.

One slot you can see just below the CPU as your picture shows.

The other one should be hidden below the GPU.

both should be the same type as I understand.

... so in your picture is just one ssd slot marked in the red area.
