@bruh69,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

The maximum supported CPU for both the HP EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF and TWR desktop (please identify which one) is an i7-6700 (TDP=65 watt). I found no indication that an (unlocked) i7-6700K (TDP=91 watt) is compatible, either here: UserBenchmark: HP EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF Compatible Components, or here: UserBenchmark: HP EliteDesk 800 G2 TWR Compatible Components.

The maximum RAM you can install is 4 x 16GB of DDR4 PC4-19200, 2400 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, UDIMM, 288-pin RAM sticks (down throttled to 2133 MHz).

The SFF desktop comes with a 200-watt power supply, which could support a low-profile GTX 1050 or GTX 1650.

The TWR desktop could be powered with a 400-watt power supply option with HP p/n: 796416-001 / 796346-001, which then could support graphics cards such as the RX 6600, RX 6600 XT, RTX 3050 or the GTX 1080.

For both the SFF and TWR desktops, you could choose to use an ATX 24-pin power adapter, such as this one: https://www.amazon.com/COMeap-Power-Adapter-Workstation-12-inch/dp/B06XW7RWNH/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2JW1IM..., which would allow you to power any graphics card you want -either parking it externally or inside your case.

The HP EliteDesk 800 G2 desktops are compatible with both SATA SSDs and M.2 NVMe SSDs by using a PCIe slot to M.2 NVMe SSD adapter.

Kind Regards,

@bruh69,

All right, then using an ATX 24-pin power adapter to hook up a 500+ watt ATX power supply as I did when I upgraded an HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF is the way to go: Solved: Upgrading HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF - Page 5 - HP Support Community - 8184303 because an i7-6700 paired with a decent graphics card, a SATA SSD, and at least 16GB of RAM, would create a decent gaming platform.  I am not sure if you can make the M.2 NVMe SSD (using the PCIe adapter as mentioned) your primary (boot) drive, but if your HP EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF lets you, that would even more enhance its gaming potential.

If you need any additional information, let me know.

Kind Regards,
