My CPU fan causes an error on boot and is cycling every 45 seconds.  I need a replacement and would like to know where to get one.

Hi:

Unfortunately, the CPU fan is not sold separately.

You have to buy the heatsink along with the fan and the part is not orderable from HP.

Heatsink - AMD BrisRid 65W, Shave2+  866177-001.

It is sold out in most places.  I could not find one on eBay.

The cheapest place I could find one was from this vendor.

I think that it would behoove you to remove the fan from the heatsink, take it to a PC repair shop and see if they can find you a suitable replacement, because I would not pay $50 for a $10 part.

But if you have no other option, you will have to buy the whole unit, remove the fan from the new heatsink and install it on the old heatsink.

There is no need to change the heatsink, and that would require you re-applying thermal paste to the processor and whatnot.

Thanks so much for your reply.  There was a solution listed as "Acceptable" that stated you could just get a fan from Walmart and replace.  I knew that it would probably require replacing both the fan and heatsink just by looking at it.  Fortunately Amazon has a fan/heatsink combo that will probably work.  Just want to say that out of the 35+ computers we have at out office only the HP's have failed.  I have learned to buy Acer or ASUS for a good deal and a better product.  Thanks again and I'll post my experience with the Amazon part as this problem seems common.

You're very welcome.

Yes, I can't believe that HP doesn't sell the fan separately, and that you can't even buy the heatsink from them on such a relatively new PC.
