If i were to upgrade my cpu to an intel core i5-7400 would it work?

Currently i have the i3-7100 model and If i were to upgrade the cpu to match the i5-7400 model would it work?

No answer can be given without the exact model. Saying P0xx does not help.

If it were compatible, the -5-7400 is less than 8 % better than the i3-7100.
