Hi,

I am trying to replace the HDD that came with my HP Power Pavillion with an SSD. However, upon opening, I see that the SATA cable of the old HDD has, what appears to be, a grounding wire coming out of its side and attached to one the screws that holds the HDD to the case. My question is, if I am going to replace the old HDD with a new SSD and I use the same SATA cable should I also attach the grounding cable to one of the screws that will hold the SSD? or Should I just use another "regular" SATA cable without the grounding wire.

Thank you in advance!

@NovaClue , welcome to the forum.

I have never seen this done in any of the computers that I have owned or used, including, many HP computers.  It won't hurt anything to connect the wire as you described, but I don't believe that it is necessary.
