ENVY 750-514
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The motherboard in my computer has the LGA 1151 socket and and a Core I5-7400 (Kabylake) 3.0 GHz Quad Core processor.  This processor isn't compatible with Windows 11 and I need to upgrade.  I found an Intel Core I5-8400 up to 4 GHz 6 Core processor, with the same wattage, but it says it requires a Intel 300 chipset.  I can't find anywhere in the documentation for my motherboard that says if it is or not.  Can anyone help me?  Thanks!

Sorry, I answered the question, whether or not it is possible to install this type of processor.
the answer from the HP documents is no!
For the number of processors, it is not the same type of motherboard, which can be found directly from a motherboard manufacturer ...
Hp indicates, only what is tested, installed on other models
Sometimes, it is possible to install a processor, of the same architecture, with updated bios, sometimes even without!
Now, if you want to modify the motherboard, we won't be able to answer that question here, I think
If it's just to install windows 11, it's up to you, it's worth it
You can try contacting hp directly, hopefully ...

Hello
[This is an automatic response

Some indications can be changed, and some may not be useful to you, I can not always adapt the answer!]

the official version of windows 11 at the time of writing this answer has not yet been released, unless I'm mistaken!
Don't rush, any new version has these problems, wait at least a little bit before you start
Check everywhere if there are problems after installation or not!
For tpm 2.0, there are many sites that are starting to talk about it.
You can start by checking the general compatibility with the microsoft tool

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11
https://aka.ms/GetPCHealthCheckApp
another tool given by the expert @WAWood gives more information (thanks to him for this find
https://github.com/rcmaehl/WhyNotWin11/releases

for TPM 2.0 to be activated with bios uefi, if it is possible
"In the search box or with the Windows + R key combination, we type tpm.msc."

look at the bottom, where the TPM version is shown. If we see version 2.0, our computer should be compatible with Windows 11 in this section.

possibly check for product updates

hi
I read that it would be more or less possible to add a module, but nothing concrete, nothing found for the moment
The security module, being generally integrated into the processor, there is no way to change this for many computers, incompatible processors!

https://www.pcmag.com/news/what-is-a-tpm-and-why-do-i-need-one-for-windows-11
The requirements for windows 11 may change, in the meantime avoid spending unnecessary money.

[edit]update
I don't know if we can find it in English
There is something new, still a little confused, but it seems, that the requirements are still changed
There would still be certain conditions, not too uninteresting in the end if it stays like that!
The link is translated here, I don't know if it will be clear, but in the main line it should be understandable!

translate.googlews Windows 11: your PC will be able to install it, but there is ..

As we can see in the previous link, it may be possible to install windows 11 even if the processor is not supported

update

there is the return of the microsoft check app
once downloaded and launched the scan, the result is given, for compatibility
that gives (french sorry)

if you click on specifications, a microsoft page appears

Prepare yourselves

Windows 11 isn't here yet, but will be available later this year. If you are looking forward to it, you can already do some preparations.

This PC will run Windows 11

Your PC meets the minimum hardware requirements and is eligible for a free upgrade when deploying the new Windows.

Warning
For the moment, it is not clear enough, the user is not always aware of the consequences
We can tell you, that despite everything we can install windows 11
Only, it is not without risk ..
Microsoft, warns users, but it's not very explicit

Windows 11 on devices that don't meet minimum system requirements
We risk having serious problems, probably updates, security problems, we do not really know what else

If the installation goes well for some, for others it can be complicated
Hp also might not provide any update:

Think carefully, before taking the risk, see the experiences of other users, see if it can be interesting, or if you can wait to have a new computer later, 100% compatible!
Windows 10 remains one of the best systems, and can be used for quite a while.

Your answer and the HP specs don't answer the question.  I am a computer tech and the information available for this computer is very limited.  I just need to know if the motherboard will accept the intel 300 chipset.  I have seen some replies to answers on a different site that say it will.  I just wanted to know more from someone who knew more about HP's specifically.  I have never seen a motherboard that will only take 3 processors as shown in the specs.  I've been building computers on and off for 15 years.  I've just been in the software side for the last 3 to 4 and gotten away from the current products.

Thanks for the help.  I guess I'll have to buy a motherboard and processor then.  I was afraid of that, didn't want to have to spend that kind of money.

You're welcome
Yes, sorry, the risk is too great, you risk screwing everything up for nothing, I am not even sure that you are given an affirmative answer at HP
