Product: HP Pavilion HPE h9 1040uk
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am having trouble finding an up to date GPU that will work in my HP HPE-h9 1040uk PC. (Currently a GTX550). It is on legacy BIOS and I think that is the problem. I have tried a Radeon RX5500 (which I now note is UEFI) and an nvidia GTX1050 which I discovered takes its power from the PCI slot and my PC does not support that so neither worked. Seems I need to change the motherboard before any decent GPU could be installed? Is there a HP approved board upgrade that will accommodate the existing 600watt PSU, the 16Gb DDR4 RAM and i7 CPU?  I am finding information on this very hard to come by and any advice will be truly appreciated.

The best simple solution is the GTX 660.  It is at least 130% better than your GTX 550.

If you could find a GTX 670 it would be 200% better.

Following your advice, I found a used GTX670 and I await delivery on Mon10.  I will let you know how it performs.
