Issue booting from Samsung 870EVO Sata SSD on HP 510-p030

EDITED: Note of clarification, I want to hook up the ssd to the motherboard, I don't want to boot and run from the USB port!

I wanted to upgrade my hard drive on my 510-p030 from a sata platter to a sata SSD. I bought the Samsung 870EVO and attached it to an external hard drive adapter and plugged it in via USB. I downloaded and ran the Samsung Data Migration Software and it saw my hard drive and the new 870EVO just fine. When it was done I hooked the connectors from the old drive to the 870 and when I power on I instantly get a black screen with processor type, speed, memory info, bios 81B4 vF.38. It says press the ESC key for the Startup Menu. When you do that, Startup Menu text appears on the bottom right but then NOTHING happens no matter what you press.

It black screens with just the 870 ssd installed and when both old and new drives are installed via motherboard (Hamar) cables. If I connect the 870 back up to the external reader, it boots on the old drive fine and I can use windows browser to see the new drive an all my data is there.

Why can't I boot off the 870EVO !!??

This appears to be a BIOS boot sequence issue.

This is what I would suggest you do.  Power off your HP Pavilion Desktop - 510-p030 desktop. Unplug your Samsung USB connection. Then push the power button on and immediately tap F10 repeatedly. Follow on-screen key navigation guide and go into advanced, then down to change the boot order. make sure USB is the first one on top. Save and exit, plug in your Samsung USB and it should detect it and boot from it.

Several months ago, I swapped a customer's HP 260-p121nd harddrive with a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD which was working great with Windows 10.

A week ago, the customer returned; the computer had performed a biosupdate (F.34) and since then, would not start Windows anymore and got stuck displaying the HP logo at boot.

Thank you for the clarification in your original message -that helps a lot.

All right, may I assume that you 'cloned' your original boot drive using either Samsung's Magician or the freeware Macrium Reflect software?

Because if this is the case, all you should do is remove the 'old' drive, and install your new drive -easy peasy.

Should run/boot A-OK from the get-go.

Are you saying the new drive doesn't work?

In order to clone your original drive to a new (SSD) drive, you'll need this temporary tool:

This is a USB to SATA adapter.

You hook the USB 3.x into your PC, and the new drive at the data/15-pin SATA end of the adapter.

You bought a quality Samsung SSD, and the Magician or Macrium Reflect Free software should 'see' the attached drive, and you should be able to proceed to clone it.

Upon successful completion of the cloning, power off your PC, remove the USB to SATA adapter, take out the new drive, remove the old drive, and install the newly cloned drive.

NonSequitur777 - Hi, yes that is exactly how I cloned it. When I power on the computer though with it attached to the motherboard instead of the usb adapter, I get a black screen and can't go further.

NonSequitur777 - I used the Samsung Magician Data Migration Software. When I power on with the new drive attached to the mother board cable, I get a black screen and can't go any further. If I put the new drive back on to the usb adapter it boots fine off the original drive and I can see the new drive and all the data just fine.
