So I was using this laptop today around an hour or two of it being ran. It randomly turns off I gotta turn it back on. It won’t turn on at all. Took the battery out of the power surge check the voltage. Everything the charger has the right voltage, but the computer will not turn on. I was wondering if I can use This laptop, laptop without A battery or if the batteries needed. And also, does it have a CMOS battery?

Hi @Jakelee777,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing a serious issue with your Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15. To address your questions.
Running the Laptop Without a Battery:
- Yes, most laptops, including your Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15, can run without a battery as long as it is plugged into a power outlet using the AC adapter (charger). However, if the laptop still won't turn on with just the charger connected, it suggests that the issue might not be with the battery but possibly with the power circuit or another internal component.
CMOS Battery:
- Yes, your laptop does have a CMOS battery. The CMOS battery powers the BIOS firmware in your laptop, which is responsible for managing settings such as system time and hardware configuration. If the CMOS battery is dead or disconnected, it could cause issues like the laptop not turning on or difficulty in booting up, but it wouldn’t typically cause a complete power failure.
Troubleshooting Steps:
Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the laptop from the power source.
- Remove the battery (if it’s removable).
- Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power in the laptop.
- Reconnect the power adapter (without the battery if it’s removable) and try turning the laptop on.
Check the Power Adapter and Port:
- Even though you mentioned that the charger has the correct voltage, ensure that the power port on the laptop is not damaged and the connection is secure.
Inspect for Internal Damage:
- If you’re comfortable opening the laptop, check for any signs of damage to the motherboard, CMOS battery, or other internal components. If the CMOS battery is loose or dead, reseating or replacing it might help.
External Monitor Test:
- If the laptop seems to power on (you hear fans or see indicator lights) but the screen remains blank, try connecting it to an external monitor to check if it’s a display issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
