HP Desktop M01-F2000na Bundle PC (65Q04EA)

Has two M.2 slots.

Motherboard Specs

If I underatand correctly, the slots are not of the same capability:

I would like to understand the options, regarding upgrading my boot drive (only 256GB NVME)  OR adding a second drive (M.2) to this system (simply for storage - speed not so important).

This would be a simple office PC.

The Wifi/Bluetooth Card would not be needed.

What do I need to understand about the different options, from these two different types of M.2 slots?

Hi:

When you look at the motherboard specs on any HP desktop PC, you have to assume you are looking at a bare motherboard with no hardware installed.

Since your PC already has a 256 GB NVMe SSD and a Realtek RTL8821CE Wi-Fi adapter installed in the 'expansion slots,' your PC has no available expansion slots.

If you want to increase the M.2 SSD storage capacity, you will need to replace the 256 GB NVMe SSD with one having a greater storage capacity, and the M.2 slot where the Wi-Fi card is currently installed can only be used to support a Wi-Fi card.

Thank you for replying.

So:

A) The existing NVME can be replaced with an upgraded NVME drive (256gb to say, 2TB). I understand.

What specific things do I need to look out for when selecting a 2TB NVME replacement drive?

I wish to purchase first time - correctly.

B) Computer will be connected to router via ethernet cable.

Wi-fi card not needed. So that particular slot can be freed up.

Is there any type of storage card I can put in that slot?

Even if it is not an NVME drive?

(Remember this is an office PC, no gaming)

Thanks.

You're very welcome.

You can't install anything in the M.2 Wi-Fi card slot other than a Wi-Fi card.

Folks have tried installing other devices in the M.2 Wi-Fi card slot and nothing else works.

SSD:

According to Intel, your PC's chipset has a PCIe revision of 3.0.

Intel H570 Chipset Product Specifications

What that means is if you decide to install a PCIe Gen 4.0 NVMe SSD, it will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from a Gen 3 SSD slot.

Gen 3 SSD's may or may not cost less than a Gen 4.0 SSD nowadays and some manufacturers such as Samsung only produce Gen 4 NVMe SSDs in 2 TB or greater storage capacities.

I'd look for a NVMe SSD with a 5-year warranty such as Samsung, Crucial or Western Digital Blue.

Suggestions...Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB, Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB, WD Blue SN580 2 TB or the Crucial P3 Plus 2 TB (because it is a tiny bit less expensive than the Crucial P3 Gen 3.  May as well get the faster drive.

Here's Crucial's list of drives they indicate are compatible with your PC:

Okay - So main NVME would have to be swapped with with a higher capacity drive.

I am asking for clarity on one thing.

The M.2 slots:

We're 100% sure that they CANNOT be used with anything other than the WI-FI card.

Is there NO chance of using them to expand storage with M.2 SSD's?

HP Recommended

No chance whatsoever to use the wifi card's M.2 slot for storage.

Try it and see for yourself.

You would also be limited to using a M.2 2230 size SSD in that slot.
