M8000 won't boot

HP Recommended
m8000
Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)

Won't boot, also noticed after removing side cover. The heat sink on mb has become detatched. This is obviously an older machine. I am interested in possibly rehabing the machine to make it usable.

If the heat sink has become detatched, then the CPU has probably burnt alive, it will need a new one.

Well, one response is better than none. Any idea if this case is worth putting a couple hundred into? Just used for basic home stuff, but if there are smart upgrades I could make and create a decent entertainment type systym then I would consider. Never have gamed, but it may be a consideration. Just not sure what I have on my hands.

No, that is a bit old of a case. It is standard mATX though, so you could use it if you'd like, but the front panel will not work with an aftermarket motherboard. I'd see if I could get it to work if I were you, by buying a cheap 775 CPU off of eBay to just test with. After that, if it doesn't work, the motherboard is toast.

Dunno, are we talking about the AM2 or the 775 version of this PC? Rather, are the pins on the CPU or motherboard?

Alright, so that's AM2. Yeah, the 6000+ should work if that's the CPU you bought.

I haven't bought one yet. Any recommendations on the best 20$ spent? Or 35$ I guess maybe.

Good, I was mislead. This one is the best CPU you can buy for that board, assuming the board isn't dead.
