Mouse and keyboard stopped working again

Product Name: HP 251-a123w Desktop
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I submitted an issue last week because my mouse and keyboard stopped working. Apparently, there was a Windows update with a glitch. I received a response with a solution to enter a command prompt to uninstall the update and my problem was resolved.

Tonight, the same thing happened. My questions now are:

1) Can I use the same command prompt as last time? Or is there a different one?
2) Is there a permanent fix for this? OR
3) How can I avoid this from happening again?

I don't want to make things worse, so I would appreciate advise from much more knowledgeable users. Please and thank you.

Re: Mouse and keyboard stopped working again

> 1) Can I use the same command prompt as last time?

Yes.

2) Is there a permanent fix for this?

Yes. Microsoft released a Windows Update (on March 5, 2018) to replace the "bad" update.

3) How can I avoid this from happening again?

Use the same technique.

Reboot.

Run Windows Update, to download/install that most-recent update, instead of the "bad" update.

Re: Mouse and keyboard stopped working again

Thank you once again. I really appreciate your help. Hopefully, I've done everything correctly now and won't have to contact you about this issue again.
