Hi @Sunil1971

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel to have your HP pendrive locked in write‑protected mode after trying multiple methods without success.

You’ve already put in effort, so let’s go through clear steps that can help you attempt to format or regain usability.

Check for Physical Lock Switch
Some HP USB drives have a small lock slider on the casing. Inspect the pendrive carefully to ensure it isn’t set to “Lock.” If present, slide it to the opposite position.

Use Disk Management in Windows

  1. Press Windows + X → select Disk Management.
  2. Locate your HP pendrive in the list.
  3. Right‑click the drive → choose Delete Volume (if available).
  4. Then right‑click again → New Simple Volume → format as FAT32 or NTFS.
If the option is greyed out, the drive may be permanently locked.

Test on Another PC
Plug the pendrive into a different Windows system. If it remains write‑protected, the issue is with the drive itself rather than your current computer.

If none of these steps succeed, it’s likely the pendrive’s controller has locked the memory due to internal wear or fault. In that case, replacement would be the only option.
