HP Pavilion 23
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have recently purchased a Toshiba Canvio 5TB external hard drive to accommodate my movie collection which currently is just over 1.5TB. My pc is an HP Pavilion 23 (all touch all-in-one) with OS 8.1 64 bit.

The instructions that came with my Toshiba say to open windows explorer (file explorer) and double click Setup.exe.

There is no Setup.exe. I have also looked in device manager - disk drives to find that the drive does not appear there either. How do I get my pc to recognize this drive so I can store my movie collection on it?

Plug the USB cable connectors between the external hard disk and an available port at the rear of the PC.

You can do this while  logged into Windows. Make sure that you have connected the power supply of the external hard disk before connecting it to your PC.

Windows should recognize that a drive has become connected and produce a sound and a popup window wich asks you what you want to do.

Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to the new storage disk.

That is where the setup.exe should be.

You really don't even need to use that unless you plan on using the storage disk as a NAS (network attached storage device) while it is connected to a suitable wireless router.

The ASUS Black Knight router that I use in my home network has that capability.

Did Windows react to plugging the device into a port?  If not, connect it to another USB port.
