Pavilion Power Desktop 580-1xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi.

After less than 3 years of service, my CD/DVD burner finally died this morning... Now I can't even open it. So I need a new one to replace it. I would love to buy a new one, but it seems HP has billions of different optical drives that may or may not fit in my computer. Which one sould I buy ?

My computer is an HP Pavilion Power Desktop 580-1xx and the optical drive is listed on my computer as HP PLDS DVDRW DU8AESH.

Thank you for your time,

Yan

Normally it should have standard height. Other member used the following replacement:

@DMProtector , welcome to the forum.

You can insert your Product Number into the box to get the Part Number for the drive:  https://partsurfer.hp.com/search.aspx

This will tell you if it is available from HP.  If not, here is a seller who has it in stock: https://www.mydvddrives.com/sata-cd-dvd-rw-drive-burner-for-plds-du8aesh-105480.html

I don't know anything about this seller.  So, you should do some research before buying from them.

If you can't find the exact match, I suggest that you consider using a USB DVD drive.  I have been using one for several years with great success.  I install games and apps with ease.

Hi.

I ordered from the E-bay guy you recommended. The drive seems to be for an HP Envy instead of a Pavilion, but all numbers are matching otherwise... so I think it should fit... well, I hope.

As for the portable optical drive, I bought one earlier today (before leaving my first message) and it works perfectly. My only problem is that I have a limited amount of USB ports... so it *could* get tricky at times. But anyway, I'll try this guy and see if the drive fits in my computer.

Thanks a lot for the help.

One thing is sure though... I've been messing around with computers for nearly 30 years, now... it is my first HP computer and it will be my last. Once this computer dies, no more big brands will enter my house. They are all a pain in the butt to work with... Expensive, no standard parts and all... I bought this one because I was in a hurry after my previous computer (a basterd one (no brand name that I bought from a local shop specialized in computers and computer parts) that lasted for 15 years) died on me shortly after the new year. Worst move ever.

Anyway, thanks again.
