hp BD-RE BH20L ATA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an 'hp BD-RE BH20L ATA' Blu Ray drive that will not read movies (but will read some blu ray data discs). I've discovered I need to update the firmware on this drive, but I can't find the firmware anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi:

There should be a model number/product number on the drive's case somewhere.

You would enter that in the support site to see if there are any firmware updates for it.

You'll have to remove the drive to find it.

Okay I'll check that out tomorrow and see what I can find. It's in a ML330 G6 server (being used as a desktop). Thanks for that info. Hopefully that's all I need.

You're very welcome.

Found the model number, still can't seem to locate any viable firmware updates out there. Here's the model number I found: LGE-DMBH20L(B)

There's no HP product number or part number on the label or elsewhere on a sticker on the case?

The HP part number would look something like this...617030-001

The HP product number would look something like this...SQ239UC#ABA

Here's the label in question:

Hi:

As far as I can tell, I am pretty sure that HP never released a firmware update for that drive.

Here is why I believe that.

The HP part number of the drive you have can be found in the HP PAVILION ELITE M9300T CTO DESKTOP PC

HP Product number KZ854AV.

You can enter the above product number in the box at the link below and you will find the list of parts for the above model PC-- the blue-ray drive you have, being one of the optional drives.

Then going to the support and driver page for the above model PC, and checking the Firmware section, there are no firmware updates for your BR drive.

By any chance, did you try this Cyberlink PowerDVD12 software to see if it will play blue ray movies from your BR drive?

If not, you may want to give it a shot.

12.0.4.5913 Rev.A (31 Mar 2016)

This package provides the Cyberlink PowerDVD application in supported models that are running a supported operating system.

I also found it was used in this model PC and as you can see, there are no firmware updates for the drive on that support page either--even for W7.

...and this model...no Blue ray drive firmware updates either.

Thanks for that info. I wasn't able to find anything either.

Not sure about that Cyberlink PowerDVD software, as the drive can't even see that there's a Blu-Ray drive inserted. I have a few discs used for photo backup that the computer can't see either (where as my laptop can see with no issues).

Might have to just bite the bullet and get a new one.
