Hello, I have an HP Pavilion Gaming PC and I would like to upgrade the graphics card to one with 6-8GB VRAM, now to my question: would it even be able to do it? Which one should I pick? Or do I have to install a new power supply unit and if so, which one?

You have two problems that I see. First, your system has an HP GTX-1650 that has a single bracket.
Second problem is the 310 power supply probably does not have the PCIe 6+2 pin connector newer graphics boards need. I say probably as some of these are custom systems and yours might be different.
It is possible that your 310 watt power supply could be replaced by a 400 watt one as mentioned by Tom_W2 here
The performance of the GTX-1650 is shown here and you can scroll the GPU windows to find a better board.
I noticed two boards that need a minimum of a 300 watt power supply that meet your requirments.
I found the 6gb HP GTX-1660 super which has a single width bracket but the back of the board indicates an 8 pin power connector is required.
Looking further down, the RTX-3050 is an 8GB graphics board. However, I was unable to find an HP version. I looked at the 3050s at the bottom of that web page and did not see any that had a single width bracket. I do not think they will fit in your case unless the bracket is removed which I do not recommend.
For all of these boards you will need al PCIe power connector with either 6 or 8 pins. Probably 8. You will need that 400 watt supply
What game are you trying to run? Here are a couple of site that can estimate what you need.

Upgrading power supply and GPU may require upgrading or adding additional fans to cool the system. You might be better off with a dedicated gaming system such as Omen.
