I triple checked before I sprayed the cpu socket with my drug store alcohol a few days ago and i can at least confirm that the bios version number on my sunflower mobo was the same as the latest firmware available on the HP downloads. I would check yet again but… I suppose it’s almost a statistical inevitability that when you’re juggling 2 cpus constantly for days like I am, it’s only a matter of time before you drop one.  It fell like 3 inches and that was enough. The 2200g now has 4-5 bent pins I can sort of make out on the outer edge. It seems fixable but I need to find something like a sewing needle to bend the pins back. I’ll pick up on it tomorrow. Sigh… I’m learning all the hard lessons on this side project lol

It sounds like you're facing a boot issue after upgrading to the Ryzen 2600. Here are some potential causes and solutions:

  1. BIOS Compatibility: Even though you've updated the BIOS, double-check that it supports the Ryzen 2600. Sometimes, newer CPUs require specific BIOS versions. Visit the motherboard manufacturer's website to verify compatibility.

  2. GPU Power: Ensure the RX 550 GPU is properly seated and that the power connector is securely attached. If the GPU requires additional power, try another PCIe slot or test the card in a different system.

  3. Resetting CMOS: You’ve already reset the CMOS, which is good. Ensure the reset process was done correctly by removing the CMOS battery for at least 5 minutes, then reinstalling it.

  4. RAM Issues: Test your RAM by reseating it or swapping slots to ensure it's functioning properly. Sometimes, new hardware changes can cause memory-related boot issues.

  5. Processor Seating: Double-check that the Ryzen 2600 is correctly seated in the socket. Ensure no pins are bent or damaged.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, you may need to contact the motherboard manufacturer for further troubleshooting specific to your hardware.

Ok sorry for going silent. I had a bad storm microburst in my area and it knocked out power for 24 hours! I was actually in the middle of cleaning the board with the 99.9% alcohol that arrived just before when the power outage happened lol

Anyway, I got the pins straighten back up on the 2200g and that’s working fine again. Cleaned the pins on the 2600 and the mobo socket. Still didn’t post. I’m reflashing the bios with the F.41 ver A bios from the hp site. I even made sure to turn off the windows security in case that interrupts anything. Idk if it would be better from me to go into the system bios manually instead and flash off a USB?

I don’t see release notes for the bios download that HP provides that may indicate added processor support, but could I have jumped the gun by doing the update? I wouldn’t know how to reverse that now cus the download page only shows the latest bios

Anyway, I don’t have an easy way to check that this chip even actually works. My other AM4 machine is my main rig and that’s my baby. I don’t like to bother it with intrusive operations if I don’t have to. To test this 2600 on that board I would have to unseat the 5700x3d sitting snug under a very cumbersome to remove heatsink, and I don’t want the outside chance to drop that cpu and bend its pins for this HP side project heh

@LiquidSnek,

Yea, it is stormy where I live in the Western Rockies as well.  Double protected my hardware with a heavy-duty surge protector plus a beefy UPS.  The UPS has been 'clicking' regularly lately, but thankfully with no effect whatsoever to my PCs.

Anyway, I don't know what to tell you -I have been in comparable and seemingly 'dead-end' situations as you are now, and like you, have spent a lot of time to get something working that should be working -but refused to.

Tip: perhaps just let it go -at least for now!

What helped me is to start a new (upgrade) project, eBay -and even local newspaper "classifieds" comes with all sorts of incredible deals, and if you are a PC tinkerer -or even if you are an aspiring one, this is something to consider!

Kind Regards,

It finally posted and booted into windows with the 2600

[insert Apollo mission control room success scene]

It was my last try before really giving up. I saw the fans spool and restart 3 times, I thought that was that. “It’s over. Let’s disassemble this thing and sell off parts.” But the I glanced at the screen, and saw bios jargon…

Holy smokes, lol

@LiquidSnek,

That is awesome news!  You betcha I know how satisfying it is when something is actually working/powering up in the end after many attempts!

Ok so maybe I'm in some uncharted waters with this hardware configuration in windows 11. Particularly with the RX550. Idk if I should make a separate thread or if this might be a better topic to post about elsewhere, but I can't seem to install the adrenalin software to dial in the settings on the discrete gpu without incurring some nasty quirks. First of all, the mouse becomes very jerky/laggy. Messing with mouse settings does nothing and there's no mouse driver update through windows. Secondly, the GPU does not use more than 8 watts and the clock is very irregular. Uninstalling the driver and software through DDU and letting windows install a driver for the the rx550 makes the mouse behave better, but I lack fine control without the adrenaline software and I have no idea what sort of performance it's really pushing.

@LiquidSnek,

Yes, like you mentioned, I would recommend starting a new discussion here.
