Noisy fan running constantly on my new HP 27" AOI desktop- how do I fix it before returning

Hi,

Just unboxed and powered up my HP Pavillion All in One 27-r104na . . . seem to have the same fan issue as others.

This thing is not whirring at what I'd perceive as 'accelerated' levels, it's just a low rhythmic hummm that is very distracting. I came to this when switching from an iMac (only use PC software/kit these days) and it's immesurably worse.

Has anyone found a resolution to this issue? . . . if there is no software fix, it'll be returned in the morning!!

Thanks,

LeeM.

@LeeMus

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I would be glad to help you with the issue you are facing today. I understand the difficulty with the problem.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, let's perform BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

If this does not resolve the issue, I would request you to contact our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to sort this out.

HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:

  • Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/
  • Select the product type.
  • Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.
  • Select the country from the drop-down.
  • You should see the HP support number or Chat option listed

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Noisy fan running constantly on my new HP 27" AOI desktop- how do I fix it before returning

Hi,

As per other similar posts from other people with seemingly the same problem, I have already updated the BIOS to the latest version available throught the HP site for my motherboard type.

I have also adjusted down as far as possible, the Power settings from within both the BIOS and Windows.

The problem persists without change, and the (uneditable) idle speed of the CPU fan under the 'Thermal' tab in the BIOS reads between 1800rpm and 2300rpm with no applications running (ie. just BIOS).

Any further suggestions!?

Thanks,
LeeM.

Leezmus,

Did you ever get this resolved?  I to have this same issue.  I posted on here but never got an answer how to fix it.  I also have a Mac, at home, this is my 1st hp for my business and so far I am super unhappy with it.

Thanks,

Rmg

Nope - took the HP back to the place I bought it from and had it refunded . . . then bought a 27" iMac - which is on my desk at home and is near silent. :-)

Shame, as the HP looked like a great machine otherwise - just too many people here (and elsewhere) having the same (noisy) issue, I reckoned it's just the way these machines are built. Ended up paying £400 more for the iMac . . . would have happily paid £50 more for the HP with a decent quality fan inside!

Ho hum . . . off to dig out my bootcamp assistant (again!) - thought I was going to dodge that chore this time!

Thanks for the response.  It looks like I'll be doing the same.  I was hoping not to, but it seems they always answer with the same thing, update BIOS, and everyone tells them that doesn't work.  Unfortunately, I have to have a pc for work, the programs I use aren't compatible with a Mac.

Have used bootcamp on (decent) macs for years - fairly specialist 3D software etc. ... always worked brilliantly ... was trying to avoid Apple-tax this time around, but was not to be :-(
